They have three children together Rizwan, Zainab and Iqra. On 9 December 1974, he married Indian film actress Shabana Azmi. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lux Style Awards. In June 2007, he was conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiyaz, one of the highest civilian honours in Pakistan. Khan has been awarded numerous awards including the Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiat, Tamgha-e-Imtiazi, and Pride of Performance. He went on to record several albums with him including the Grammy nominated Kuch Kar Dikhayengi (1988), which sold over 10 million copies worldwide. A few months later he joined the band of Pakistani pop singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
